This blog is called 'RAILING the Media'. What does that mean? RAILING is an acronym, each letter standing for the Key Concepts that we use in the subject to analyse any media text. Let me remind you of them: Representation; Audience; Institution; Language; Ideology; Narrative; Genre.
Essentially, the difference between the key concepts and the GCSE and AS courses is IDEOLOGY. The GCSE students will come across this if they make it through to AS.
For a quick overview of what the key concepts mean, go to this website http://mediaknowall.com. Find your course (GCSE or AS) and then the key concepts.
The purpose of this blog is to share some thoughts with you on how the key concepts can be applied to the media that we consume - any day, every day.
I also hope that one or two of you will be bold enough to add your own comments to the blog.
Thanks for reading. Hopefully when we get going it won't all be text. There'll be pictures too: even videos.
